General
President Barbara Roberts opened the meeting with introductions at 7:00 PM.
Committee Reports
Recap of E-Week Banquet (Elise)
- About 300 people attended. We were about $4000 short.
- We gave 4 scholarship awards.
- Michael Wright has a CD with photos. He will give this to Barbara. DJ Cline also has photos.
- IEEE members did not like having the table in a corner. IEEE would like to sponsor the banquet next year.
- Volunteers did a great job in organizing the banquet.
- We will work with next years banquet chair on table location and sponsorship.
Call for Nomination (Ron)
Ron is the Nominating Chair. He would like to get nominees by the end of May.
Fundraising (DJ Cline)
STC suggested charging for job posting on the website. DJ Cline would like to get advice on fundraising ideas and corporate sponsorship. CompassPoint provides grant writing courses. We suggest having the grant writing workshop next year. There is a suggestion to have a 0.5 hour presentation in June for the workshop.
Engineers without Borders (Bill Nott)

- There are over 7000 members worldwide. There are 550 projects mostly in the third world. Membership is growing at 50% a year. There is a student chapter at SJSU.
- Barbara suggests asking Engineers without Borders to join SVEC. We encourage Bill to apply in June.
MakerFaire
- To be held in San Mateo on May 19 Ð 20
- Elise is looking for volunteers.
Hall of Fame
- This is what we discussed in September.
- Felicita will find out the society that will be responsible for next years E-Week.
- KRS and Felicita suggest that the HOF committee should clearly specify the requirement for being at the E-Week banquet.
- Barbara will check with Steve Kang about this persons availability.
January Council Meeting Minutes

Society Announcements
- There is a new SWE program, Wow Its Engineering, will be on May 19. The SWE scholarship banquet is coming up.
- Order of Engineer -- Chapter 130 is dissolving due to lack of membership.
- It will be the 100th anniversary for AIChe in 2008.

- ASME seminar on April 28
