Minutes of SVEC Council Meeting
Aug 22, 2001

Meeting began at 7:00 pm.

There is a concern of SVEC becoming involved in political events. However, we can simply say political awareness or professional awareness.

Monthly or quarterly mettings: We will have monthly if we can arrange a joint meeting. Otherwise, may not have it but we will still have quarterly meetings.

AT Kearney at Tech on Oct 16.
Planning Retreat Sept 16, 12 to 6
Meeting with SWE on Oct 14
No meeting the 26th

The membership listing may have out-dated info but Larry obtained this info from Society webpages. Larry and Mike to assemble list. This list should simply be a two-contact list , not what was before.

Budget for a secretary assistant.

Open House (Rendee)

JVSV and SVEC will put up the money, flexibility is on food cost. Five panel discussion on the study regarding meeting the needs of K-12 education. Also announcement of H of F. Additional comments:

Presidents and VPs of societies, and CEOs on pipeline to education.
Anticipate 250 total
5:30 hor deourves
6:00 meeting
8:00 end

Charges of Tech, food, mailings.

SJBJ will not participate monetary but it is not intended to get people to come but rather get our name out.

Many people want their logos associated with our events.

Consideration is to invite the right people to the right events to make the right decisions. Not to do a blanket invite.

JV will be the collectors of the money and bills since it is their report.

"Sky is falling" but the panel members will present what they are doing to stop this.

Hall of Fame (Haddad)

Committee had meeting last week. Who will be the chair? Pinson to act as the interim chair for one more year. Haddad has approached Pinson with some names of the H of Famers who can be chairman.

At least three new nominations ready to submit to Pinson.

Most members have served most of their three years (they cannot serve more according to the bylaws).

Banquet (Sherman)

Speaker, still awaiting answer and should get answer by next month. Incoming national ASCE chair (Schwartz) was offered to be our speaker if we don't get McCullough.

Steve recommends six $1000 scholarships. Renita wants to raise total scholarship budget to $10,000.

AT Kearney to contribute $2500.

Steve will not be able to serve as Banquet chair for next year.

Rendee mentioned for us to put 1/4 page ad in Sept issue of SJBJ with a civil engineering watermark. Also Oct issue plus Jan, Feb. Ads are for marketing of who we are, not to get people. This is our partnership.

Ask Jim to do photography again.

Budget

Cliff has idea of SVEC being a west coast office of AAES. An organization for societies to contact for data, posters, print material, etc. Use AAES as a model.

We motioned and voted to remove AAES from our budget.

See 8-22 Excel printout.

The budget was approved.
