Meeting Discussions
President's Final Report - Dr. Nabil Ibrahim met with Dana Ditmore regarding the Synopsis $3M grant to promote math and sciences in the school systems. Dana was impressed and wants to pursue a relationship with the SVEC. When the Synopsis working committee selects its officers Dr. Ibrahim will arrange introductions.
Banquet photographs from the 1999 banquet were passed around for viewing.
Treasurer's Report - Ed Kaminski distributed a paper-copy of the SVEC balance sheet. He had also brought Dues Notices to this meeting for distribution to those organizations present.
"Discover E" - David Levinson indicated that the kickoff meeting was being planned for late mid/late September, before the next SVEC meeting. Nabil Ibrahim will arrange an introduction for David and the Synopsis educational grant organization.
Banquet Committee - Steve Sherman indicated that Catherine Heenan was being sought for the MC role.
Meeting Presentations - Dave Licata proposed Amy Cooprider as the speaker for the September meeting. The topic is "A Case for Mars", exploration issues.
Secretary Report - A paper-copy report was distributed at the meeting and also e-mailed to the current mailing list.
Steve Sherman - ASCE meeting 8/26.
Manesh Shah - Golf tournament planned
by AIChE.
Dave Licata - The Newsletter for SVEC
needs revival. Help is needed.
Larry Rinek - SAE meeting, Formula-1 race
car viewing and discussions in Pleasanton
Bob Goslow - CSPE picnic 9/26 at Huddart
Park, San Mateo. An Order of the Ring ceremony is planned.
Presentation Summary
1999-2000 Officer Elections
Dr. Sam Haddad, Chair of the Nominations Committee, presented the slate of candidate officers for the 1999-2000 period. Summaries provided by the candidates were distributed and reviewed.
Bob Goslow moved to close the nominations,
seconded by Ron Kane
Steve Sherman was selected as President
by a unanimous vote.
The remaining office nomination had only one nominee for each position and Bob Goslow made a motion to accept the entire slate, this was seconded by Steve Sherman and the offices were supported by a unanimous vote again.
Five director nominations were presented, the Bylaws require at least two. Dr. Nabil Ibrahim moved to accept the slate, this was seconded by Dave Licata. The vote supporting the nominations was unanimous.
The officers for the 1999-2000 tear period are:
A motion to adjourn was made by Bob Goslow and seconded by Cliff Monroe, we finished at 8:30.
Additional Item
A presentation of a plaque to thank the Lockheed-Martin Missiles and Space Company was made to Dave Licata and David Levinson. They will convey our thanks to the the President of the Company and arrange it's mounting in the hall of B-107.
