Meeting Discussions

Treasurer's Report - Ed Kaminski

The Treasurer's report was distributed and discussed, the banquet payment to the hotel was not yet deducted because of a dispute in the dinner service.  This billing will be resolved with the hotel and included in the next report.

Secretary's Report - Ron Kane

January not prepared in time, it'll be posted to the website.

Banquet Discussions - Felicita and Steve

Turn-out was good but ended up 80 heads short, this may have been due in part to the late announcement of the keynote speaker selection.  Working the sponsorship program earlier and addressing some form of entertainment to encourage people to stay afterwards was also suggested.

Next year's target dates:  22 or 23 February 2001

Felicita had digital pictures on her laptop and a project was available so attendees got a preview of the pictures.  These will be resized and posted to the SVEC website.

A digital copy of the HOF information was copied to a CD, Michael Wright was given custodianship.

"Big, fat, transparent dots!"  This was the suggestion of how to indicate to the food servers what the individual chose for their dinner selection.  Writing the name of the selection on the dot was also suggested.

Our trend should be toward online/electronic registration to speed up the process.

Officer Nominations for 2001

Sam is the Chair of the Nominations Committee this year, last year he requested a biography and a position/policy statement from each of the candidates so that booklets could be created for review by the members of the council prior to the vote.

If you are interested in a position within the Council then contact Sam and send him your bio and position statements by email before the next meeting.

Discover E - David Levinson

All requests from the teachers have been covered - this is the first time!  David received more than 150 requests.
Events
Larry Rinek - Some SAE chapters are considering merging to become a Northern California entity, pros and cons exist.

Hall of Fame - Exhibits will require regular replacement and upgrading on a period basis. The Tech level of standard is currently beyond our capability.

Hall of Fame materials will be posted to the website as they have been in the past.

Member Society Information - Richard Osburn suggested that society names and addresses be managed by a mailing/database service [the AVS (American Vacuum Society) uses one].  This resulted in a further discussion regarding the out-of-date nature of our current records and the potential for their enhancement.

ASME - Sam Haddad passed out a copy of the current ASME newsletter and indicated that their board meetings were open to all and would occur on 4/3 and 5/8.

AIChE - Manesh Shah announced the their next meeting as 4/21, see aiche-norcal.org.  The topic is "Semiconductor Challenges and Solutions."

SWE - Felicita Saiez announced the Leadership Skills session on 4/11.

WSV - Rendee Dore indicated that there have been multiple presentations throughout the state for curriculum development and for encouraging engineering programs.  The focus has been toward the principal and administrators.

"SRUT" - Students Recycling Used Technology - are refurbishing computer hardware and giving it away to other schools.

WSV is looking for support in the form of letters and other aid in getting NSF grant awards.

The Engineering Consortium is presenting "SMT - Semiconductor Manufacturing" on 4/5, 4-6 PM.  [Notices were emailed out by Rendee.]
