March 27, 2003 at TEN company, San Jose.
Meeting called to order 7 pm. followed by introductions.
Jan 23 minutes: board found errors and will straighten out.
Mousepad Presentation:
by Roger Engstrom (AFE)
Wanted to distribute these at banquet but pads that were delivered had errors. Can open up the pad and insert a weekly schedule. A non-profit pays $8 for a mousepad, $4 comes back for the organization.
Give new members one of these mousepads. Also great for churches and soccer teams.
Non-profits only pay for mousepads, other expenses absorbed by organization.
Banquet Report:
Do we go back to Marriott? Most likely yes but will need to put down some money to secure next year's date (Friday, February 27, 2004).
Professional registration by a company to provide services?
Comments:
Was the best in three years.
Sound quality a little poor at first.
Some wanted to hear more info on scholarships.
Some did not like the political remarks by Hans Mark.
Some felt the boy scouts were too militaristic.
Gano had only two hours of sleep the night before.
There was about 30 no-shows out of 350 but there were a number of substitutions so the total no-shows would be lower.
A little behind on donations but doing OK.
Treasurer Report: We are the same as last year financially. There are some outstanding donations but doing ok. Expenses were about $200 overbudget but made some extra money from banquet.
A little over on the Open House. $300 over budget on Hall of Fame.
Nominations of next year's officers. Contact Cliff for nominations.

by Michael Matteucci
http://www.ten-net.org
Here is an overview of the company from TEN's website:
TEN is a non-profit business incubator and venture development center that is networked with seasoned Silicon Valley advisors, investors and service providers. Since 1993, our mission has been to support Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and to give them the advantage they need to succeed. We are proud of our record of helping to launch over 60 companies, including eBay, Vertical Networks, Xros and Right Works. Through our technology partners, entrepreneurs can access leading edge technology to take to market.
Incubate start-ups, there are 23 here and 6 affiliates (these 6 are too early in business models).
Want to provide value and be a team atmosphere.
TEN rents first floor, provide service in this building. Start-up companies can lease space, expensive compared to others but TEN provides infrastructure. $3.75 to $5 per square foot but provide networking and help for people that it for business. Also provides consulting services. They cannot lease any more space because they are full. TEN also helps companies find CEOs.
But TEN has challenges, NASA Commercial Technology Office used to provide assistance (NASA no longer funds the CTO).
Companies have been leaving TEN but they still think that TEN has a good service to offer.
TEN provides the critical mass, i.e. like a group of people pushing a cause.
Want to pull more into international companies and IP transfer. Match IP to companies to accelerate the business.
1. Economics of scale. Provide phones, building, etc. so entrepreneur can focus on their products.
2. Network and provides advisors of skill sets. There is a broad base of advisories.
