Minutes of SVEC Council Meeting at SCU

Oct. 24, 2002

Board Meeting

    Attendance: Steve Kang, Felicita Saiez, Roger Engstrom, Joel Ferguson, Clifford Monroe, Gano Chatterji, Renita Brien, Seth Bates (arrived at 6:30PM) Bob Hurst

  1. Felicita moved to approve board minutes with corrections, passed unanimously
  2. Capitol club - preferred membership opportunity from $2000+ to $500 to members of SVEC. $115 monthly dues. Decided that we would encourage individuals to join and put this on our website for members to be aware of. But SVEC itself is not financially suited to be a member.
  3. Seth pointed out that there is a single nomination for Keeper of the Flame. Discussed feasibility of special award for teacher in Antioc.
  4. Gano - two concerns: changes to cancellation penalties concerning banquet.
  5. Seth reports that some individuals felt they were cut off by the Board. We need to be more sensitive in running the meeting.

Council Meeting

Attendees:

  1. Meeting called to order at 7:15 P.M.
  2. Reviewed the last meeting minutes.
  3. Item 1 (added) discussion on strategic planning suggested by Jay Pinson at Retreat.
      (1) Infrastructure - (office etc). Financial support for math contests among others
      (2) Critically consider reasons for existence.
      What the world would be like without us - coordination of e-week, programs, banquet, ...etc.
  4. Post under Order of Engineer sent to Michael Wright.
  5. Keeper of the Flame Award - report by Seth Bates.
      Motion: To present one award. Unanimously passed.
  6. Hall of Fame 5 active nominations.
      Voting wasn't finished. Sam will report later. In future want more outstanding nominations.
  7. Banquet report by Gano.
  8. No meeting November (due to Open House) and December January will be back on schedule
  9. Bob Hurst discussed his societies' needs.

Meeting was adjourned at 9 p.m.
