Minutes of SVEC Council Meeting
Sept. 26, 2002
Board Meeting
Start at 5:40 PM.
- Steve started the meeting.
- Reviewed the last meeting minutes.
- Proposed SVEC Budget (Felicita Saiez)
Banquet fee raised from $50 to $60, budget for scholarship winners, and need to get donations.
- Revised the SVEC brochure. The corrected version will be sent by Steve.
- Open House (by Joel Ferguson) -- get the news of Open House published, documents should be ready by Oct 21 and send to publisher (one month early). Winncy or her helper will send the documents to SJ Mercury News.
- Eligibility for SVEC awards/scholarships:
- Territory definition (by Seth Bates)
- SV is a big area, including up north to San Mateo, Hayward, Union City, south to Santa Cruz, Alameda county, etc.
- Keeper of Frame award to high school teachers. Understand what the award is -- specifically for high school teachers who has achieved high in maintaining Math and Science education, not necessarily for outstanding teachers, revise the criteria (will be sent by Seth.
Council Meeting
Start at 7:20PM
- Heidi from Tech Museum asked for volunteers/advisors/mentors to help students (11-17 years old) in projects.
- Each attendee introduced himself/herself.
- Accepted AIAA membership.
- New budget balance in the beginning of this year: ~ $9,000. Goal: to get $22,140 donation, approved unanimously.
- Eligibility of SVEC awards: (1) recognize outstanding students ($500~1000, varies each year depending on how many students are nominated); (2) Keeper of Frame award-Territory definition, refer to www.jointventure.org. -- only for award purpose. (based on transportation, community, etc.)
- Keeper of the Flame Award. Call for Nomination (Seth Bates), see www.svec.org. Hall of Fame, 6 nominations, 5 submitted to the committee. By writing not fax or email, by Oct. 3.
- Banquet: task, plan, issues, fund-raising, schedule, and possible speakers were presented by Banquet Chair Gano Chatterji.
- Overviewed planned dates for meetings and events (Winncy Du)
- Open house is to welcome new chairs and help them to get to know each other; distribute flyers for the event on Nov. 21 at SEMI.
- Winncy Du announced the planned dates for meeting. Normally each last Thursday of the month, except Dec., the month for Open House, and the month for Banquet, and the month for workshop.
- "What member societies desire/require from SVEC" was discussed by Sam Haddad.
- Industry advisory boards (from major or big companies).
- Education focus
- Societies introduced their activities
NUMMI tours, SME (Mike Heinecke and Barbara Roberts), SWE (Felicita Saiez), NASA (reward people of Aerospace Engineering Memories -- Video tape: Revolution of Flight) IEEE.
