A person, nominated to receive HOF, was unable to attend the E-Week Banquet due to a family situation. Steve Kangs concern is that if HOF nomination will expire if this person cannot attend the banquet. Steves request is to present HOF award at the Open House or have someone else accept this on his behalf.
Barbaras concern is that HOF recipients are big draws to SVEC E-Week Banquet. Financially, we rely on their families and friends to come support them at the banquet.
Conclusion: Have 2008 SVEC E-Week Banquet on Thursday or Friday before E-Week in 2008. Steve Kang will check with this person's availability and Steve will remind the Council in Spring 2007.
a. Keeper of the Flame - Jack Jew
Jack just formed the committee with Juanita Ryan, Bruce Kawanami, and David Levinson. Barbara sent the announcement out on September 6. The application due date will be extended to October 16, 2006. Barbara suggested contacting PTA in order to find qualified recipients for this award. Elise will send the announcement to the entire database to publicize this award.
b. Open House
It will be held on November 14, 2006. Barbara mentioned 2 possible sites: Altera and Computer Museum. We would have to rent AV equipment for both sites. Altera has only one open area. Computer Museums auditorium will not be available on November 14; we would have to use other rooms at Computer Museum.
We also identified Pipe Trades Training Center and Cypress in San Jose as other possible locations. Barbara will ask Richard to call TJ Rodgers about using Building 6 for the Open House.
c. Banquet
Bruce and Barbara met with Jessica Teachworth, Steve Sherman and Fred Jones for their suggestions. Bruce and Barbara will meet with Felicita in the near future.
We would like to invite TJ Rodgers to be the keynote speaker. We will know tomorrow if TJ Rogers can be the speaker.
Keith, Elise, and Barbara are on the committee. Russ is the primarily contact for fund raising.
Tyco International will be the National E-Week Corporate Sponsor in 2007.
d. Public Relations - Keith Krook
Keith is exploring options to increase publicity such as TechNow. It is helpful to use HOF as news-worthy items. There was a suggestion to use HOF inductees PR people. Russ suggested talking to Jay or John Krup at San Jose State. Keith will follow up with KRS Murthy on his suggestion about contacting the PRSA.
The Tech Museum of Innovation welcomes engineers to give talks. Elise will send this announcement. We hope to get free space at the Tech in exchange.
e. Membership - KRS Murthy
KRS Murthy contacted 25 societies in the area. Here are target societies: Chinese, Hispanic, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Singaporean, Swiss, German, and French. He will communicate the SVEC events to these societies and invite them to the Open House.
KRS Murthy invited Yinning Hu, a director from Chinese American Information Storage Society, to attend tonights meeting.
Felicita suggested make more flyers to distribute them to potential members.
f. Engineering exhibit
Barbara is looking for a committee chair for this exhibit. Engineering exhibit is intended to explain different engineering disciplines.
g. Scholarship program - Connie Fang
Connie briefly explained the program and encouraged participation to serve on the Scholarship committee. KRS Murthy, Dan, Prasad and Ephraim volunteered to be on this committee.
h. Technical Programs - Dhaval Brahmbhatt
Dhaval is looking for committee members for technical symposium in May 2007. KRS Murthy agreed to be on this committee.
i. Education
Pallari teaches Math at Miller Middle School in San Jose. She is planning Miller Math Marathon, to be held on January 13, 2007. Pallari already has enough volunteers for this event. She showed the proposed budget for this competition. She needed cash donations or prizes. She was short of $2175.
Felicita suggested using part of Education budget for this purpose. Attendees agreed to go back to their member societies to ask for remaining $1675 for this competition.
Motion: Prasad to have SVEC to donate $500 to Miller Math Marathon
