General
President Elise Engelhardt opened the meeting with introductions at 6:40 PM.
Approved Agenda
- Michael Wright asked to add Discover E to the agenda.
- Connie Fang moved the motion to approve the updated agenda and Dan Oprica seconded this. This was approved unanimously.
Minutes from June Meeting
Manesh Shah moved the motion and Dan Oprica seconded this. This was approved unanimously.
2007-2008 Calendar
Manesh Shah moved the motion and John Gale seconded this. This was approved unanimously.

Proposed Budget
Connie Fang moved the motion and Manesh Shah seconded this. This was approved unanimously.
Dues
Elise provided invoices for several societies that have not paid dues last year.
Keeper of the Flame
We encourage everyone to promote this. Dan or Jack will provide an announcement to Elise; Elise will send out the email announcement.
Insurance
John provided an update on the type of insurance.
2008 E-week Banquet
Elise will contact CIE to see if they are interested in sponsoring 2008 E-week banquet.
Discover E
Michael Wright will set up a link on the SVEC web page.
Scholarships
Connie mentioned how we advertised SVEC Scholarships in the last two years.
Membership/Recruiting
KRS Murthy agreed to be a focal point for recruiting new member societies.
Partnership
John Gale followed up with a Korean organization.
Technical Programs
- Elise suggested collaborating with other societies.
- Contacts: Manesh (AIChe), KRS (IEEE), and Ed Moore (ASME)
Public Relations
- Elise would like to put more emphasis in this area this year.
- Elise will ask DJ Cline to chair this committee.
- We need Outreach events to promote SVEC.
New Member: The South Bay Community Network, Incorporated
- The South Bay Community Network, Incorporated is interested in applying for membership.
- Eric Mueller moved the motion to approve The South Bay Community Network, Incorporated into membership without engineering; Min Hua seconded this. This was approved unanimously.
Potential By-law Change
Elise will send out proposed change to the Board first and put this on the Council meeting agenda in January.
Society Announcements
- AIChe planning meeting, paid for by GE, last Thursday
- CETA Rendee Dore is now the Program Manager because Cliff retired last year. There will be an Education Forum from 3:45 to 5:30 on November 13.
- AIAA monthly dinner on October 18 ($25 for members)
- See IEEE Grid for IEEE events
- International Manufacture, October 3 - 6
- Business Plan Competition, Oct 16 Ð 18
- SWE Ð GetSET was successful in August 2007.
- SBay social event first Saturday of the month
- Engineering without Borders fund raising event on October 18
- SJSU symposium noon Thursday, September 27
- CIE short courses at SJSU September 29 and October 6
