Meeting Discussions
The Minutes and the Treasury report from last month were distributed, they were open for review and discussion. Society dues had been paid by only one organization, they are due now.
Engineer's Week activities were discussed. The supplement to the San Jose Business Journal from last year was distributed and Felicita presented her plans for working with the publisher for the Feb 2000 banquet. The schedule requires completion of the content by the first of the year, the focus this year may be on the Silicon Valley Workforce Consortium for the regional element and the related State activities. Potential Keynote speakers are being discussed. MC possibilities are Catherine Heenan and Moira Gunn.
Hall of Fame - Larry Rinek indicated that a number of nominations packages had been received and that the committee was working on a schedule to meet and make their decisions for this year. The selections will be announced at the Open House scheduled for November 17.
1999 Open House - November 17 - The Open House will be held in the space exhibit display room of B107, colleagues, spouses and friends are invited. A sponsor for the refreshments is being sought. The SVEC webpages will be updated and an article for the IEEE GRID created.
Newsletter - A Newsletter will be produced in the coming weeks. Content includes Officers, the Open House, a Banquet preview, contact updates, a sign-up form for Discover E and society events. Send content materials to Michael Wright.

Presentation Summary
Dave Licata introduced Amy Cooprider, LMMS, who discussed "A Case for Mars" that focused on the potential for a manned Mars exploration mission. The basis of the talk is a test of the same name by Robert Zubrin. Amy's presentation included a proposed methodology for incrementally building resources to be used by a succession of manned missions and an introduction to the recently created Mars Society. You're encouraged to check out the website and to join!
Dave Licata inquired if the group would be interested in further presentations of this nature and suggested one on THAAD - the missile defense system in development. He will seek out a speaker for the October meeting.
A motion to adjourn was made by Ron Kane
