SVEC President Felicita Saiez presents her awards to Rendee Dore, Fred Jones, and Michael Wright for their contributions in SVEC activities for Open House and Engineers Week Banquet.
Hello to all,
I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to each and every one of you for choosing me as the new president for the SVEC. You have showed your confidence in me, and I will do my very best to make sure the SVEC stride for the best for tomorrow.
As you all have witnessed this past year under President Felicita Saiezs leadership, the activities were well-executed, the finance was healthy, and the participation was very high. Several important events such as open house and engineering banquet were well received and, more importantly, with a surplus of income. She planned the activities, monitored the process and assessed the results. I was very fortunate to be able to work with her and observe the business operation with such an open mind. I like to thank her for laying such a solid ground for me to continue. Thank you, Felicita.
I also like to thank Steve Sherman for his generosity to continually provide his advice and share his experience with the group. This election has taken much of his valuable time from his work and the little league games that he was coaching/judging for. I am indebted to his sacrifice and contributions. Thank you, Steve.
There are too many to thank for during the past year. I also agree Felicitas selection of the President Awardees Rendee Doré (for her unreserved support and wonderful assistance in many events), Fred Jones (for the outstanding, well-executed engineering banquet) and Michael Wright (for his enthusiasm and hard work in maintaining the website and taking the last minute registrations for the engineering banquet). Thank you, all. I hope you will continue support me in the future events.
I have already approached some of you for the committee work and future activities. I will continue to do so. I hope you can come forward and let me know what your best interest is so that there will be a good match. I invite you to give me your suggestions and criticisms whenever you can.
Lets work together to continue the success that we created.
Best regards,
Richard Chung
President, SVEC

Sponsored by the California Education Master Plan Alliance
May 19-23, 2003
http://www.webdialogues.net/masterplan
A very important opportunity for Californians to share their opinions with legislators and education experts about the Master Plan for Education legislation is scheduled for May 19 23. Everyone is welcome to participate in this online dialogue and can do so from a computer anywhere in the state (or around the world).
We need your help in getting the word out about this valuable opportunity for Californians to be heard. Please pass on this invitation to your colleagues, friends, and the people for whom you have contacts. Californias business and technology leaders are key partners in transforming our education system. We need your continued involvement to ensure that the Master Plan legislation results in public education that supports all students in reaching their full potential. Students must be properly prepared to enter the workforce as skilled employees and to engage in lifelong learning opportunities, and our system of education must be held accountable for these outcomes. We must close the achievement gap and provide ALL students with quality educational experiences.
The following invitations are suitable for posting, e-mailing, and printing in publications such as newsletters. We want to be sure that as many people as possible hear about this important discussion! Thank you so much for your help in getting the word out.

East Bay IT Group forming EBIG~ORG
Hello everyone. We are forming a non-profit group for those of us who live in the east bay area and think all the good topics and speakers go to Silicon Valley (or even in the city or up north) and we want to see some activity taking advantage of the resources we have in the east bay. Were modeling ourselves (and partnering with, hopefully) SDForum, with whom most of you in the area should be familiar.
We are looking at a launch date of Jan 2003. Please sign up at http://www.ebig.org (East Bay IT Group) to receive notifications of our launch and upcoming activities, and send me any suggestions that you have. [Our privacy policy stipulates that this mail sign-up will only be used for sending out notifications and will never in any way be sold or used for any purposes other than ebig.org activities]. What Im most interested in is feedback from potential members as to what groups (SIGs, topics, workshops etc) you would like to see. We cater to you.
Right now were in the processing of paperwork, solicting speakers, locations, dates, sponsors and all that jazz. But the most important thing again will be to get feedback from people who might become members as to what theyd like to see in such a group. Take a look at www.sdforum.org to get some ideas for SIGs or propose your own. Any suggestions on things youd like to see on our site (being developed) are also greatly appreciated. Im also interested to know which groups in the area would be most important for you to have us partner with (for example, Womens Technology Cluster, SDForum, SVASE, SofTech, Churchill Club, etc etc)
Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions, ideas, speakers or speaker topics, locations, volunteering, parntering etc.
Thanks! Look forward to actually putting some faces to the names from here in the East Bay.
