**ABSTRACT**
Which technological and ergonomic requirements need to be fulfilled to compensate potentially adverse driver behavior when monitoring Level 2 driving assistance systems? During the 2-year-research project Level 2 Hands-off, five potential challenges regarding driver behavior were addressed, yielding results from both expert- and customer-based field tests as well as multiple controlled driving simulator studies. In this talk, crucial aspects for a safe system design will be illustrated by highlights from the data collections, with a special focus on driver’s visual attention.
