**ABSTRACT**
With the transition to higher automation levels, LiDAR sensors in automated vehicles are becoming a key element for environmental perception. fka has supported the development of test methods for Radar and first generations LiDAR sensors since the early 2000s. In recent years, LiDAR sensor technology has been emerging once again for environmental perception. Therefore, fka formed an industry consortium (LiDAR manufacturer as well as vehicle manufacturer) in 2020. The aim was the development of standardized test methods for evaluation of LiDAR sensor performance irrespective of their underlying technology and design. This project culminated in the creation of the first form of standardization in the LiDAR performance evaluation domain, the DIN SAE SPEC 91471: “Assessment methodology for automotive LiDAR sensors”. In summer 2023, fka plans to continue this work and investigate the effects of adverse conditions such as weather, contamination or interference on LiDAR sensors.
This talk will focus on the motivation, the test methods according to the DIN SAE SPEC 91471 and an outlook on future activities. Other ongoing activities e.g. from ISO and SAE will also be discussed and links between all results will be provided.
