Parking will be at San Jose City parking garages or street parking This year we are collecting donations to support afterschool STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) programs for disadvantaged youth. We are partnering with TechShop which has a thriving after school STEAM program. We are a nonprofit 501c3 and donations toward this initiative are fully deductable.
NOTE: You may have heard that TechShop San Jose is facing a serious budget crunch moving to their new location since their current one is being redeveloped shortly. . They are currently raising funds to pay for construction of their new facility, and having prepaid scholarships will really help them build out the classrooms they need for the after-school STEAM program. Please consider donating or bringing this to the attention of**companies** who may be willing to support the effort. Every bit helps! Currently we are taking only pledges toward this effort. If you sign up to make a pledge we will be in touch with more information.
TechShop and SVEC will provide the scholarships to disadvantaged young people who want to learn how to become makers using STEAM principles and the cutting edge technologies that TechShop provides. Scholarships will be available to youth ages 8 to 17, and each recipient will receive a seat in a 30 hour afterschool STEAM program, as well as a 6-month TechShop membership and classes for themselves and an accompanying adult for continued self-guided learning. We believe that when kids learn how to use basic tools and create fun projects that are open-ended and customizable, their creativity, initiative, and enthusiasm naturally follow.
TechShop is a one-of-a-kind, membership-based, DIY fabrication studio offering access to over $1 million worth of equipment and software. This hands-on, project-based-learning program will be set in a fun and encouraging environment, and is very conducive to cultivating creative and innovative thoughts in young minds! Students will build 21st century skills and actively engage with machinery, design software, and technology such as laser cutters and 3D printers.
